BAHAMAS
I left the cold Bostonian winter to step into the breezy paradise of the Bahamas where I would board my 25-day cruise on the following day . One peculiarity that I loved was that upon my plane's arrival, a live band set-up for our listening pleasure as we waited to go through customs at the airport. No need for streaming radio or playing pre-recorded music - we had the real deal. Astoundingly, they were not even requesting any tips.
Taxis, I have learned are not the New Yorker signature yellow everywhere else. In the Bahamas, taxis much resemble the stow-away white vans that are featured in many film hideouts or kidnappings. But of course, once you have left the airport, what other choice do you have? At the very lest, you have the choice of picking your taxi driver!
I chose a gentle-looking, yet weathered 80 year old man who was a supposed retired and world renown professional singer. He informed me that he was in no rush, and coincidentally, neither was I, so we had a leisurely drive towards my destination. He had a small family, and a young daughter who wanted a Christmas tree. In Boston, small Christmas trees run about $15-20, yet in the Bahamas, their prices start around $100. I promised to bring one back with me upon my return and once I found the suitcase to fit it.

Skip forward to two hours later, and I arrived at the Atlantis hotel. Despite its grandeur and Mary Kate and Ashley's convincing adventure, I found the experience standard. The sights were beautiful, the water was warmer than the Jersey shore's, and the Leap of Faith was absolutely worth the trepidation, yet it was an experience that was fun once and to not be tried again.
